Covid-19 Information for Patients Effective May 19, 2020
We have made a number of changes in order to provide a safe environment for both employees and patients.
You will immediately see some physical changes. There is a plexi-glass barrier at the front desk and staff will be wearing masks, face shields, and scrubs. There is a hand sanitization station at the corner of the front desk and fewer waiting room chairs.
Please avoid just “dropping by” for any services as we do need to limit the number of people within the clinic at any one time. Call us instead and we will be happy to schedule an appointment for any of our normal services.
Here’s what to expect:When booking your appointment You will be asked for your email address so that we can connect you to the Patient Portal. We will also ask you to provide any insurance information at this time.
You will then receive 2 emails from us:1. MSP consent form for insurance billing and a Covid-19 screening questionnaire; and2. Access to your Patient Portal
Please sign the forms as instructed and then log in to the Patient Portal. It would be very helpful to us if you could complete the exam interview by the day before your exam.
Prior to your appointment The confirmation call now plays a much more crucial role. We will need to speak with you directly within a day or two of the appointment in order to ask you the required Covid-19 screening questions. We will also have other preparatory questions, for the purposes of the exam, in order to minimize the amount of “in- person” contact during your time in the clinic.
When you arrive for your appointment Please come alone. We are limited in how many people can be in the clinic at any one time. If a parent or caregiver is required, please tell us in advance so that we may be prepared.
Leave any “extraneous” items in your car or with your driver. No food or drink permitted. Do bring in your sunglasses (if getting dilated), eyeglasses, contact lens case (if you will need to remove your lenses).
We require you to wear a mask for your appointment, as we are unable to maintain 2m physical distancing. All employees will also be wearing masks, and face shields or safety glasses. If you arrive without a mask, we can provide one for a minimal charge.
Do not wear gloves. We will have you hand sanitise on arrival.
If you missed the confirmation call, we will ask you to call from your car to complete this before entering the clinic.
Appointment reschedulingIf our employees and/or doctor are sick, they are required to stay home; as a result, this could adversely affect staffing levels and your appointment may need to be rescheduled at short notice.
Vice versa, we also ask that you reschedule your appointment if you are feeling unwell.
We will not charge cancellation fees when rescheduling for this reason; however, we will be charging a fee to those who do not show up for an exam without 24 hours prior notice.
Payment and Prescriptions We would prefer that you pay by card. The payment station is set up at a distance from the receptionist.
Your eyeglass and contact lens prescriptions will be available to you through your Patient Portal. You will also be able to retrieve your receipt through this means. Alternatively, they can be emailed to you on request.
Any pharmaceutical prescriptions will be faxed directly to the pharmacy of your choice.
For contact lens orders, we require pre-payment (credit card or eTransfer) and the lenses will be delivered directly to you.
